About INCOSE SA Chapter


INCOSE SA is the South African chapter of an international body known as INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering). INCOSE SA was founded in 2002 and is registered as a non-profit society of professional persons.

INCOSE is a not-for-profit membership organization founded in 1990. Our mission is to share, promote and advance the best of systems engineering from across the globe for the benefit of humanity and the planet. In Southern Africa, this aim is carried further by INCOSE SA that operates in line with the mission and goals of the international INCOSE organisation.

INCOSE SA has a total of more than 200 members from a wide range of industries in South Africa and in neighbouring countries.


The purpose of the CHAPTER is to foster the definition, understanding, and practice of world-class systems engineering in industry, academia, and government.


The objectives of the CHAPTER are to provide a focal point for dissemination of systems engineering knowledge, and through its involvement with the INCOSE to:

  1. Promote collaboration in systems engineering education and research;
  2. Support the establishment of professional standards for integrity in the practice of systems engineering;
  3. Improve the professional status of all persons engaged in the practice of systems engineering;
  4. Encourage governmental and industrial support for research and educational programmes that will improve the systems engineering process and its practice; and
  5. Promote CHAPTER activities with industry, government and academia within the geographical area of the CHAPTER.


  1. The CHAPTER encourages conferences, workshops, seminars and tutorials, and may sponsor or co-sponsor such events as appropriate.
  2. The CHAPTER shall provide its members with a communication channel for the dissemination of the systems engineering knowledge base.
  3. The CHAPTER shall strive to increase research and educational activities that enhance the practice of systems engineering.

ECSA Cerificate

The INCOSE SA Chapter Management Committee has accepted the responsibility to manage the INCOSE SA Chapter to comply with ECSA Category A requirements. To enjoy the Category A privileges, INCOSE SA has the obligation to comply to key ECSA requirements, by 2015:

  • The majority of the INCOSE SA membership shall have to be registered members of ECSA;
  • The majority of the INCOSE SA Chapter Management Committee shall have to be registered members of ECSA; and
  • INCOSE SA shall submit regular reports to ECSA.
